Welcome to defiantchat.com!

Defiantchat.com is a Matrix protocol homeserver that has the least amount of moderation legally possible.

What's Matrix?

Matrix is kind of like if Discord and Email had a baby. It has servers, channels, dms, group chats, calls, etc, but instead of there being one central power in charge of all of it, it's instead run by a bunch of individual server owners, like email.

How can I use Matrix?

Unlike Discord, there is multiple clients you can use. Like Email, there is not just an "Email" app, there's outlook, Windows Live Mail, Gmail, etc. However, for a beginner, I reccomend using the Element client. You can visit them at Element.io. Once there, you can create an account with a bunch of homeservers. The default is Matrix.org, but you can sign up with another one, like... defiantchat.com!

What's defiantchat.com?

Defiantchat.com is an individual, sovereign matrix homeserver that seeks to moderate as minimally as possible. Other Matrix servers, like Matrix.org, have a rather heavy hand in moderation. So, defiantchat.com was created to be a refuge from censorship.

How can I use defiantchat.com?

You can create rooms on defiantchat.com when you use a defiantchat.com account. Please read the rules, and after, I'll tell you how to make an account.

Do I need to use a defiantchat.com account to use defiantchat?

Only if you intend on making a room (matrix version of a discord "server"). You can join defiantchat.com rooms even if you're using a matrix account from another homeserver.

Rules of defiantchat.com:

    1. Don't do anything here that would get the feds interested.
    2. Seriously, I don't want feds at my door.

Registration password:

The password to make an account (a registration token), is "iamarobot"

You don't need to give me an email, unlike the Matrix.org homeserver. You can just join.

Defiantchat.org is hosted in the United States. Unlike the EU and the UK, where matrix.org is based, platforms like defiantchat.com do NOT have any legal requirement to take down "hate speech". We have the 1st amendment. If you are from the UK and the EU and would like to send me a threatening email, be advised that you have no jurisdiction here.
